Faber Finds Fraud Across Ohio

It is hard to believe, but with the Labor Day holiday earlier this week, summer is officially over. However, that doesn’t mean the State Auditor’s office was taking a step back. We spent the summer finding and fighting fraud to ensure Ohio tax dollars are not being abused by criminals. I have a message to those who think they can break the law: our office will find you, and you will be held accountable.

“Fraud is still a big game across Ohio, State Auditor Keith Faber says. But his office and local prosecutors are fighting back as lying, cheating and stealing shift to newer financial technology… ‘The moral of this story,’ Faber urges local governments, ‘is to follow a two-person verification rule. Never accept a bank transfer request by email or phone call, even if you know the person.’”

Faber said former Bolivar officer Jeffery Stearns and G&R Tactical owner Grant Timberlake both face felony counts of unlawful transfer of weapons, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, theft, telecommunications fraud, falsification in a theft offense and complicity.”

“In a release issued Wednesday afternoon, state Auditor Keith Faber said his Special Investigations Unit ‘ultimately identified 205 credit card transactions totaling more than $28,757 that were not related to the operations of the college.’”

“Findings for recovery of $32,757 were issued this week against the former Pomeroy Mayor’s Court Clerk and two others, following a special audit into receipts that were not deposited into village accounts, Auditor of State Keith Faber announced.”

“The former superintendent of a Cincinnati charter school who is now a convicted felon must repay $543,478 in public money that the state Auditor’s Office says was misspent…He was charged because a janitorial business he controlled was improperly contracted to provide services to the Cincinnati Technology Academy, Auditor Keith Faber announced Tuesday.”

Holding those who break the law accountable is the foundation of why I serve the great state of Ohio. Ohioans deserve to have elected officials who are committed to ensuring our state maintains law and order. That is what I am doing, and will continue to do throughout my time in office.
