PRESS RELEASE
Keith Faber Opposes Issue 1
COLUMBUS – Today, Keith Faber, candidate for Auditor of State, released the following statement opposing Issue 1 on November’s ballot:
“I have long been a proponent of prison and sentencing reform. As Senate President, I led the effort to be smarter on crime. If Issue 1 passes, people carrying large quantities of fentanyl, and potentially enough carfentanil to kill almost one million people, could only be charged with a misdemeanor that couldn’t carry any jail time. As a former Probation Officer, I know that’s the last thing we need in Ohio right now. I urge all Ohioans to join me in voting “no” on Issue 1,” said Faber.
Issue 1 is a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would make most felony drug possession crimes only punishable by a no jail misdemeanor. The ballot issue is being supported by out-of-state special interests such as Mark Zuckerberg and George Soros. Of those running for statewide office in Ohio, there is bipartisan opposition to this ill-advised proposal.
